Participation in ProCool

As a European manufacturer of industrial refrigerator and freezer equipment, you are cordially invited to take part in the international contest for energy-efficient and environmentally friendly equipment. This competition will give you an opportunity to present yourself as an innovative company offering products that are not only in tune with market demands but also environmentally compatible.

Interested manufacturers can download precise information on the contest and application documents from the competiton site.

At present, the criteria for the contest are being defined. This does not take place “in an ivory tower” but in close cooperation with users who are familiar with the demands of practical application. This ensures that the contest will produce equipment that meets the requirements of the market.

Two of the main criteria for the competition have already been defined. The award-winning equipment will have to be exceptionally energy-efficient and free of any coolants or insulating materials containing HFC.

Participating in the project has the following advantages for your company:

• Your position as an innovative and environmentally conscious enterprise will be highlighted on the European market.
• The best products entered in the contest will receive awards at an international trade fair or conference.
• International press coverage and public relations for the project and its results will complement your own marketing activities.
• You will be optimally prepared for new directives and developments in the European market (e.g. the draft directive on "Eco-design").
• Buyers will be involved in defining the contest criteria in order to help develop products that meet the requirements of the market. Therefore, the market of buyers will focus greater attention on the award-winning products.

Currently AHT, Caravell, Carrier, Frigoglass, Liebherr, Linde, Novum and Vestfrost have definitly registered for the competition. Other companies already expressed their interest to participate.

New European Standards and framework documents

Eco-Design-Directive

In July 2005 the new EU-Framework-Directive for Eco-Design has been published. The directive also includes refrigeratores and freezers for the commercial use. During the next two years specific directives will be developed addressing several product categories. Companies who participate in the ProCool-Project are always up to date regarding the new developments in legislation.

EN-ISO 23953 for commercial cold appliances

EN-ISO 23953 is the new upcoming standard based on the former EN441. It is used as a base for the technical testing in the ProCool-competition. EN-ISO 239553 can be bought on the webpages of ISO - International Organization for Standardization.
